Fire Scarf
Craft: knitting
Skill Level: Rookie-Apprentice-Virtuoso-Genius
Skills: knit, purl, yarn over
Sizes: one size
Finished Measurements: approx. 4.5” across, 52” from end to end lying flat
Gauge: not important
Yarn: 100g, 164 yds (150 m) worsted or medium weight yarn
Suggested Brand: 2 skeins Miski by Mirasol shown in 108
Needles: 5.5mm straight or circular
Other Materials: tapestry needle or teeny crochet hook
Notes and Tips:
• The yarn overs can be deceiving because you are going from a purl to a knit and may not actually need to wrap the yarn – be sure you are actually creating an extra stitch on your needle.
Instructions:
Multiple of 4 + 1.
CO 29 sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1, *yo, P3tog, yo, K1*, rep from * to end of row.
Row 2: P2tog, yo, K1, yo, *P3tog, yo, K1, yo*, rep from * to last 2 sts, P2tog.
Rep these two rows until scarf reaches desired length. BO and weave in ends.
Beautiful scarf! I can't wait to make it!
hi – really love this pattern but should it be 30 stiches? I did 29 and did nothae enough at the end of the row to do the sequence. so was wondering if there was a stitch missing? would 30 stitches work?
Oh no! A small but important mistake in the pattern: the * was just in the wrong spot. The problem is now fixed and 29 sts is the correct CO. Hope I didn't cause too much frustration!
Oh, I'm so glad I checked here…I was going BONGERS!!!! I even double checked in a reference book how to do the yarn overs since they are different between a knit and purl, and purl and knit!! Sure got that part of down!! LOL! But I love this scarf too much not to try again!! Thank you for the correction!!!
This was posted on the Daily Crocheter site but this is knitting…
Clearly…I'm not familiar with the Daily Crocheter, so if the pattern ended up there, it wasn't me!
After more that 40 years away from knitting, I decided to start knitting again and learn how to do texture knitting. Your pattern here is the pattern I chose to work on first. With the help of some classes I am learning more than I ever thought possible and your scarf pattern is a part of that learning process. Thanks very much for this lovely pattern.

Thanks for the kind words! I love to hear about ppl returning to knitting. I wear my llama fire scarf a lot – I dream of one day making a huge, oversized one. The Mediterranean Tulle stitch pattern also makes a great scarf (smaller of course) and is super easy to do…almost suspiciously easy.

Hi. I just found your blog. I adore everything you make! But I'm curious… I'm a relatively new-ish knitter…. How would it be best to adapt this pattern to be done on circular needles as a cowl? I really love the lace look but I'm having a hard time trying to figure it out. It's probably because I'm a novice and haven't dealt with it much…
Oh yay! I have exactly 2 skeins of Miski and have been dying to use them, at last I have a project for them! Thanks!
